CAN J1939 Expansion Module for iX and EXTER/E1000 Operator Panels (MAEN962/MADE962)

The expansion module is used for the operator panel to communicate via CAN J1939. The correct driver must be installed in the operator panel.

The adapter is easily mounted in the RS422 interface on the operator panel . Should the installation space limit the possibility to plug in the adapter directly on the back of the operator panel, simply use the optional bracket and connector cable to mount the adapter in a more convenient location (up to 1.5 meters from the panel).

No, they do not work for EXTER / E1000.

In the drivers for EXTER / E1000 and the drivers for CIMREX / E-series, based on platform 2 (where you have an advanced tab), this is configured on the Advanced tab in the driver properties - Timeout and Retries.

Does EXTER or CIMREX series / E1000 or E-series withstand acetone vapour?

You can find information about how the operator panels reacts to different solvents in the installation manuals. Regarding acetone, we recommend that you do not install an EXTER or CIMREX / E1000 or E-series panel in an enviroment where it will be exposed to acetone vapour.

No, it does not work for EXTER.

Supported voltage and power peaks for E1000/Exter teminals

During normal conditions the panel can take up to 30V. During shorter periods of time the terminal supports what is defined by the DNV and CE standard. According to DNV the panel can withstand 1000V surge.

E1032/Exter K30: Terminal reboot when changing blocks

If i.e static text are placed at the bottom of the screen in Information Designer will the terminal reboot when trying to open the block. If the texts are moved one pixel up it's OK.

In Information Designer 1.30 will it not be possible to place the texts in that faulty position.

How to connect a PC and an EXTER panel

The cable you need is a CAB30, you find the drawing attached.

Battery (MS614S) in EXTER K10m and EXTER K20m / E1012 and E1022

The battery lifetime should be at least as long as the lifetime on the terminal.

How long does it take to recharge?

When fully discharged, worst case, it takes a maximum of 24 hours to recharge. When delivered from the factory the battery should be almost fully charged (terminal powered up 20 hours).
Worst case: If it takes more than 40 weeks between delivering terminal from factory to installation, the battery is discharged.

How long keeps the real time clock running without 24 VDC power supply?

283 day's if fully recharged

What is the expected lifetime of this battery?

If fully discharged (283 day's) then 100% recharged again and the same scenario over and over again the battery will last 153 year's. This is of course not the normal use of a terminal, counting of a scenario when terminal is powered 8 hours and powered off 16 hours. The battery will be discharged ~ 0,2% the capacity of the amount of recharging will then be ~10.000 times. If doing this 200 working day's of a year the battery will last approximately 50 years. Doing the same scenario but instead 365 days of a year the battery will last 28 years.

The battery MS614S is solidered to the CPU board.
The intention is that the battery not will have to be replaced during the lifetime of the terminal.

Problem with CF memory card detection in Exter/E1000 panels

Some Compact Flash memory cards cannot be detected by Exter/E1000 operator panels due to timing problems. The panels require a certain initialization time to detect the CF card and for some cards this time is too short. CF cards that are marked "Industrial Grade" usually follow the SanDisk encoding, which is the same as for the panels. These cards will not give timing problems when used with Exter/E1000 panels.

Our recommendation is to always use Compact Flash cards marked Industrial Grade for example:
- CF512 (art.no. 601000024) a 512MB Industrial Grade from Cactus Technologies, 0 to +70 gr C
- 4GB Industrial Grade

Operating temperature testing for EXTER

Exter panels are tested for temperatures between 0 and 40 or 50 degree C depending on the mounting conditions.

If an Exter panel is operated in temperatures over 50 degrees C the display might get darker. After a short time of exposure to high temperatures the dark display has changed back to normal but we don't know if this would also be true after a longer period of high temperature exposure. At high temperatures the lifetime of some components can be shortened.

If a keypad panel is exposed to high or low temperatures, the keys might be stretched (high temperature) or freeze.

PPP with Exter and GSM modems

Question:

I’m trying to use the remote access viewer tool to connect to an EXTER T100 with a INSYS GSM Modem, connected to it. On the PC side I have another INSYS GSM modem. The modems make well the connection but it never steps over the “Verifying user name and password…” .I’ve already tried with two analog modems and it works well. Is anything missing? Have you already done it before with GSM?

Answer:

Please use the following Init-strings for the modem connected to the EXTER-terminal:

AT&F //Restore factory settings

AT+ICF = 3,4 //8 databits, no parity, 1 stopbit

AT+IPR = 9600 //9600 bps

ATS0=0 //Auto-answer = OFF

ATQ0 //Verbal - modem sends result commands

AT&W //Store the settings

Use a normal "PC -> Modem"-cable between the terminal and modem. Also make sure that the terminal is connected to the terminal while the terminal boots.

Problem to printout text strips on EXTER K100

In Information Designer go to File/Print and choose "Setup", then choose "Landscape". Now will the whole text strip be printed and you will see the whole textstrip when you choose "Preview".

Which material will be used for the EXTER adapter plates?

The adapter plates for the EXTER will be made in 2mm sheet steel with textured black powder coating.

Driver MELSEC QnA/Q-C24: What settings are needed in QC24 to be to communicate with an EXTER?

You need to setup some internal dip switches in the Mitsubishi programming software (GX Developer or GX IEC Developer).

1. Create a new Q-project:

2. Double click on the PLC-icon in the project manager

3. Select the tab called I/O assignment, select Intelli., insert an optional name, select 32 points and input the start address 0000 (in this example the QC24-module is placed directly after the CPU, if it is placed on another location on the rack the StartXY address needs to be adjusted).

4. Click on Switch setting and insert the value 0762 0005 (hexadecimal):

Switch 1 and 2 are used by Channel 1 (= COM1) and Switch 3 and 4 are used by Channel 2 (= COM2). The switch settings means that the Com port (Channel 1 = COM1) will be setup to use 19200 baud, No Parity, 8 databits, 1 stopbit and protocol 5 (the protocol that the QC24 driver is based on).

5. Download the settings. Make sure that you reset the PLC-system, after the reset the module will use the downloaded settings.
