CAN J1939 Expansion Module for iX and EXTER/E1000 Operator Panels (MAEN962/MADE962)

The expansion module is used for the operator panel to communicate via CAN J1939. The correct driver must be installed in the operator panel.

The adapter is easily mounted in the RS422 interface on the operator panel . Should the installation space limit the possibility to plug in the adapter directly on the back of the operator panel, simply use the optional bracket and connector cable to mount the adapter in a more convenient location (up to 1.5 meters from the panel).

Solution
Adjust driver parameter "Force function code 0x10" to Enable

E1000 printer Form feed

Symptom:

An E1000 terminal adds a FF (FormFeed), printer control code, after every report \ alarm printout, even if it's only one line.

This is not compatible with the old E-series.

This causes problems when replacing old MAC \ E terminals with E1000, with serial, list paper printers, printing line by line.

An E1000 will in this case, do a page feed for every line, and thereby consume "A LOT" of paper.

Solution:

The issue is solved in Firmware version 1.31 \ E-designer 7.31.

To make this work you need to set the "page length" in the "printer setup" to "0"

The fix applies only to serial printouts, not USB \ ethernet.

Adressing in E1000

Adressing different drivers in the same terminal:

@1 ------ Driver one

@2 ------ Driver two

@8 ------ Internal variables

For example M0@8 or D0@2.

Before using the internal variables they need to be declared. Functions - I/O Configuration - Internal Variables

Addressing BDTP

In the Client when adressing a server an index for example 1> must be added to point out which server the device should be read/written from.

Example: 1>D0 looking at server 1 device D0. One client can read from maximum 16 servers.

1> - server 1

2> - server 2

Adressing BDTP with dual drivers

Example: Adress 1>D100@2 in Terminal 2

Terminal 2 will read device D100 from server 1 (Terminal 1) and PLC 2.

Station adressing

In some drivers for example Modbus, the terminal can communicate with other stations than the default station, the station number is given as a prefix to the device. This is stated either as a fixed number, or as an index register between I1 and I8.

Example in the modbus driver ASCII/RTU :

05:40001 addresses holding register 40001 in station 5.

08:10001 addresses input status 10001 in station 8.

40001 addresses holding register 40001 in default station.

I1:40001 addresses holding register 40001 in the station stated in I1

Station handling for Modbus TCP

To communicate with other controllers, the node number to that controller (0-2) is given as a prefix to the device. This is stated either as a fixed number, or as an index register between I1 and I8. Valid configuration numbers are 0-2 and the number must be followed by the character -.

Also the Unit Id (Modbus address) can be specified. Valid Unit Id:s are the numbers 0-247 and the number must be followed by the character :.

Example:

40001 means holding register 40001 in default configuration (node 0).

1-40001 means holding register 40001 in configuration 1 (node 1).

1-5:40001 means holding register 40001 in configuration with Unit Id as 5.

I1-40001 addresses holding register 40001 in the configuration stated in I1

Station adressing using Ethernet driver

To read devices from other addresses (controllers), than the startup address, the device is given as a prefix.

For example: "IP Address" is set to 192.168.1.170 in the "Settings" propertypage.

Then will 13:R100 access R100 in the controller with IP Address 192.168.1.13

E1000 heartbeat in firmware 1.5 and 1.31 (and older)

In firmware 1.5 there are built-in internal variables, M8196 and M8197 that can be used to check the communication to the controller, Hearbeat.

Internal variable M8196 is used for Controller 1 and M8197 is used for Controller 2. The internal varaibles are zero when there is something wrong with the communication to the respective controller.

There is no built-in heartbeat function in E1000-series version 1.31 and older but there are a few ways to create the desired function:

Alternative 1:

- Create a dummy alarm and connect it to a digital signal in the PLC. Disable the history function.

- The alarm should also be connected to a dummy alarm group with a summary notify active bit.

- When you set the alarm then the summary notify bit will also be set (since there is an active alarm in the group). If you reset the alarm then notify bit will also be reset.

Set the alarm and wait for a few seconds, if the summary notify bit is not SET then you know that there is no connection between the HMI and PLC-system.

Alternative 2:

- Use a data exchange channel and exchange data between two internal variables. Use a trigger signal (e.g M10). The trigger signal will always be reset when the data exchange has been performed successfully.

Set the trigger signal in the PLC-code and wait for a few seconds, if the signal is not Reset then you know that there is no connection between the HMI and PLC.

Alternative 3:

- Use the Terminal -> Controller function. The terminal's clock data will be sent to 7 registers according to the table below:

In the PLC-code you can monitor if the register that receives the seconds updates. If this register stops updating then you know that there is no connection between the HMI and PLC.

Do the Tx (timeout) and Rx (retries) commands work for EXTER / E1000?

No, they do not work for EXTER / E1000.

In the drivers for EXTER / E1000 and the drivers for CIMREX / E-series, based on platform 2 (where you have an advanced tab), this is configured on the Advanced tab in the driver properties - Timeout and Retries.

Does EXTER or CIMREX series / E1000 or E-series withstand acetone vapour?

You can find information about how the operator panels reacts to different solvents in the installation manuals. Regarding acetone, we recommend that you do not install an EXTER or CIMREX / E1000 or E-series panel in an enviroment where it will be exposed to acetone vapour.

Supported voltage and power peaks for E1000/Exter teminals

During normal conditions the panel can take up to 30V. During shorter periods of time the terminal supports what is defined by the DNV and CE standard. According to DNV the panel can withstand 1000V surge.

How to get the old Index functionality in E1000

When upgrading a project from E-series to E1000-series there is a difference between the Index functionality.

For example if I1 = 1

E-series

D0I1 (Signed 32-bit) -> D1 (Signed 32-bit)

E1000-series

D0.0I1 -> D0.1

D0I1 (Signed 32-bit) -> D2 (Signed 32-bit)

There is a possibility to get the old E-series behaviour in E1000-series if the driver being used is a v5 (generic) driver or most of the MELSEC drivers.

To get the old functionality two driver commands XFLINDEX and XBITINDEX has to be set.

E1000 alarm list size

If you increase the alarm list above what is recommended you might get performance issues. The terminals memory might be filled up.

We recommend a list size of maximum 50KB but we have tested with a list size of 100KB.

E1000: CAB7 no longer available

Since the CAB7 is no longer available, the current work around is to change controller port in your HMI project to COM2 (RS-232).

Use the converter 6ES5 734-1BD20 from Siemens to connect the CPU port on the controller and the HMI via a 25 to 9-pin converter.

Communicate with a Siemens IM 151-8 PN/DP (ET200S) using E1000

Use the S7 ISO over TCP/IP driver in E1000.

E1000: Load project to terminal from USB memory

Is it possible to load a project to a new terminal (no project loaded) with a USB stick?

Yes, it is possible to load a project to a new terminal with a USB memory is you have saved the project as a .dat file. You don't need to reboot the terminal, the USB memory is automatically detected. The time it takes for the terminal to detect the USB device may change from one device to the other.
If the message "External memory card detected" is not displayed right away when inserting the USB stick, wait for 30 seconds.

E1000: Japanese characters

Customer uses font MSSONG.TTF and tested DejaVu.TTF for Japanese characters, it looks good in the computer simulation but not on the E1032 panel.

ANSWER
Works in font "Arial Unicode MS" which indicates that MSSong and DejaVu does not contain the character set that the customer has used.

Note that font "Arial Unicode MS" (Arialuni.ttf) it is about 22MB big and can not be loaded to memory of an E1032, which is not possible to expand the memory!
The memory must be expanded to cope with this font. Since the E1032 can not be expanded, there must be a E1070 or higher.
Tested in the E1070 with 64MB memory card, works ok!

Settings in E1070:

E1000 Index system signals etc.

General rule:

It is not possible to use the terminals index registers (I1 - I8), in objects \ places, where the scrollbar for theese registers are absent, in the primary i\o input dialog.

Examples:

In this object indexing is possible, because you can select the index in the primary dialog

In this object indexing is not possible, because you can not select the index in the primary dialog.

If You click on the i\o button on the right side of the input field, you open the general i\o select window. Here you can select an index, but it will not work.

If you close the i\o dialog and reopends it you'll find that your index selection is gone.

Problem with CF memory card detection in Exter/E1000 panels

Some Compact Flash memory cards cannot be detected by Exter/E1000 operator panels due to timing problems. The panels require a certain initialization time to detect the CF card and for some cards this time is too short. CF cards that are marked "Industrial Grade" usually follow the SanDisk encoding, which is the same as for the panels. These cards will not give timing problems when used with Exter/E1000 panels.

Our recommendation is to always use Compact Flash cards marked Industrial Grade for example:
- CF512 (art.no. 601000024) a 512MB Industrial Grade from Cactus Technologies, 0 to +70 gr C
- 4GB Industrial Grade

E1000 serien: ASCII-object and Unicode in E1000

What happens when the option "Unicode" is activated on the ASCII-object?

Normally a character is represented by one byte, when activating "Unicode" each character is now represented by one word.

The displayed character in the ASCII-object depends of the font being used. To find out the hex value of a specific character the Character Map in Windows can be used.

Make sure that the same fonts i chosen as in the ASCII-object.

Problem:

No errors.

Camera window in E1000 terminal displays only a white area

No errors , installation button and start button respond aparently normal, and the camera window opends, but no image displayd, only a white surface.

Solution:

Disable the password protection in the camera setup.

The terminal does not support this feature.

E1000: Get the value 8224 in some registers when using Current Recipe register

In version 1.20 of the firmware for E1000 you can have up to 32 characters in a recipe and recipe directory name (in 1.10 and lower it's 8 characters).

When upgrading the terminal to version 1.20 you allocate 16 register for the names instead of 4 and this must be handled by the PLC if using Current Recipe register and/or Current directory register.

E1000 and Siemens S7-1200

Is it possible to communicate to S7-1200 system with the E1000 terminals?

Yes, but in the driver properties you need to change the slot number to "1"

The S7-1200 has only one communication port- Profinet or TCP(Iso on TCP). With the driver S7-ISO over TCP the tests has been successful.

Internal memory card in E1000-series

How do you expand the memory capacity of a terminal E1000.

This is done by using a CompactFlash card (CF). To put this card in the terminal assigned as needed. On the circuit board inside the terminal cover on the back, there's a socket for inserting the CompactFlash card.

The project must also be set for an expanded internal memory expansion, meny selection Configuration - Terminal ...
Enter the size of the memory card, see picture below:

Note that it is not possible to expand the memory to all terminals. According to the manual it's not valid for smaller terminals to have either internal or external CF card (E1012, E1022, E1032, E1041, E1043, E1060, E1061, E1062 and E1063):

Set Clock in E1000

To set the operator panel clock in E1000, a maneuverable Date/Time object (Digital clock) must be defined.

The mode switch (service meny) have only function for Date/Time format.

Use two different VNC clients to the same E1000 panel

How to use two different VNC clients to the same E1000 panel?
It is impossible to use two Remote Access at the same time with terminal.

Solution
The E1000 terminal could work with two VNC clients (computers) one connected to the port 5800 in Remote Access, and the other one connected to port 5900 in web mode. Test made with E1071 and E-Designer project, settings in Network Services.

2.7 Service Menu

The Service Menu is accessed by setting the mode switches on the operator panel in mode 1000. Please see the Hardware and Installation manual for the operator panel for information about the mode switches.

The following options are available in the Service Menu:

Network Settings
Select this option to access the Network Menu.

Network Menu
The options in the Network Menu corresponds to selecting Settings/Network in
E-Designer and contains the following items:

Erase Project Memory
This option erases the project memory.

Load Project from Memory Card
An empty operator panel can be started with an existing E-Designer project, used in
another panel. The project first has to be saved to a Compact Flash memory card or
USB memory stick via the function Save project to memory card (for example via a
function key).
Insert the memory card in the empty panel before boot-up. Then select Load project
from memory card in the service menu and follow the instructions.

Enter Transfer Mode
Allows entering transfer mode manually, needed to download projects via GSM
modem. See section Transfer via GSM Modem for details.
Not available for E1012 and E1022.

Enter Run Mode
Allows entering run mode manually, needed to download projects via GSM modem.

Update System Program from Memory Card
Insert a Compact Flash or USB memory stick with a new system program and follow
the instructions. The system program can also be updated via the configuration tool
for the operator panels.
Calibrate Touch Screen
Follow the instructions on the screen to calibrate the touch screen.

23.5 Transfer to/from External Memory Card

Not available for E1012 and E1022.

Export Project to Memory Card

In order to export the project to a Compact Flash memory card or USB Flash drive,
select Transfer/Export Project Transfer File. The output from the export is a datfile.

Load Project from Memory Card

Save the dat-file to the library BACKUP/PROJECTS on the external memory card.
The file structure is automatically created when formatting the card in the operator panel. If no operator panel is available, the library structure must be created manually. A function or touch key can be configured in the configuration tool to download the
operator panel project, by selecting the function Loads project from memory card. See also chapter Function Keys.
The command MCI can be used to indicate that a memory card is used in the panel. Type MCIx on the Commands line by selecting Setup/System Signals. x represents the digital signal that will be set when a memory card is inserted.

E1000 Password on USB key

Password Handling via USB Flash Drive

In some situations it can be convenient to use a USB Flash drive to handle a password. This is possible by using the PWDF command under Setup/Commands.

Password levels are set in the configuration tool in the regular way. Then a USB Flash drive is prepared with a file named “password.txt” that contains the password for the desired security level. When the USB Flash drive is connected to the operator terminal, the terminal searches for the password on the USB Flash drive and logs in to the correct security level. When the USB Flash drive is disconnected, the security level is reset to the default level.

Normally, a question about creating a backup file structure is displayed when a USB Flash drive is connected. To deactivate this question, the DBAF command is entered under Setup/Commands.

E1000 OEM loader when using EEPROM

ISSUE:

Does the OEM loader functionality in the E1000 work, when an EEPROM cassette is loaded in the PLS (FX3U in this case)?

ANSWER:

YES it does. (with one exeption stated below)

Remember however that the plc program is downloaded to the EEPROM cassette, and not to the buil in RAM memory.

Due to this, it is also neccessary to set the protect switch on the FLrom-64 (L) cassette to " OFF \ unprotect " , previous to download. (the switch is on print side of the cassette)

If the protect switch is ON during download, there is no error message, and the transfere apears to precede as normal, but the program is however lost, and not stored in the PLC.

The PLC is automaticly stoped and restarted during download.

Exeption:

The OEM loader does NOT work if the program capasity in the PLC parameters, is set to 64K step.

You will get an error message at the finish of reading 64K from the plc ( error reading plc )

If you try to download this file to the PLC again, you will get the error message " program not for this plc )

This issue has nothing to do with the EEPROM cassette, and appears during up\download to the builin RAM as well.
