Power back-up system for hospital

Application challenge

The customer required a secure and stable network to monitor and control power circuit breakers and backup power to re-establish and prioritize the power distribution in case of a power down. To save cost, the solution was designed to re-use the existing Profibus cabling in the facility and the existing SCADA system.

Solution

The solution uses Beijer Electronics HMI panels and switches to control and monitor the overall emergency power solution and handle the communication with relay breakers. In case of a power cut, the back-up system is immediately powered by a UPS, enabling to start up diesel generators and supply the hospital with electricity. All according to a pre-defined order for the most critical applications in a prioritized sequence, with as little disruption as possible.

A secure and future proof solution with possibilities to expand the installation and add new hardware for future needs.
